This symbol has been adopted by the province of Almeria and is associated with the Neolithic painting that can be found in the caves of Letreros in Velez Blanco. The shape is said to be of a man holding an arc with magical powers of protection against storms and the 'evil eye'. In the 1940's a group of intellectuals and artists used the primitive cultures of Almeria as a reference for their works which popularised the Indalo symbol.
